I learn about and share what I learn with others about New Product Design and Development. I regularly teach a course on New Product Design and Development.

Core competencies created through the course on NPD:

Provides a firm understanding of tools, and skills in using Design Thinking to develop products, services, processes, and strategy. Design thinking is a human centered approach to solve human problems that allows people who aren’t trained as designers to use creative tools to address a vast range of challenges.

It uses the methods inspired by IDEO’s process of inspiration, ideation, and implementation.[1]  The class will use qualitative and quantitative analytical tools to help participants learn and understand user problems and help them create solutions that delights end users.

Here are a few videos that capture what happens in the class

Out of all the years that I have attended SFSU, Professor Kumar's guidance and teaching skills have bypassed any other teacher I have encountered. Taking his class was one of the best decisions I could have made for my business/marketing career. He has taught me many lessons that I can now directly apply towards my future business career, and for that I am truly grateful. He does not beat around the bush and will tell you if you are not applying yourself as well as you should. Thank you Professor Kumar for a wonderful fall semester.less

Dr. Kumar has an unmistakable passion for teaching rarely experienced in today's classroom environment. Unfortunately I had to take Dr. Kumar's class during the summer, where sessions were compacted and the level of detail had to be restrained. However, the knowledge and experience I took away from this 10 week session still surprises me. Dr. Kumar's unique background and relate-able real world experiences helped me make connections with the course material to my professional life, and helped shift my perception of reality in marketing and personal selling. He holds his students accountable, and has high standards for his class. I wish I had taken more of his classes earlier in my academic career, his class offered me new bearing and direction with my life. If you're taking a marketing class at San Francisco State University, take Dr. Kumar, you won't regret it.less
